is Blowin’ the Doors Off!
I
knew there was something special about this label! Well, I got off my butt and
re-stocked a couple of previously released titles that were out-of-stock
earlier and then… THREE INCREDIBLE NEW GIALLO SOUNDTRACKS SHOW UP! All
appearances are that DigitMovies is starting a Bruno Nicolai Giallo series –
boy, these guys are SMART! Here’s what we got:
LA NOTTE DEI DIAVOLI
AKA: Night of the Devils
La Noche de los Diablos
LA
NOTTE DEI DIAVOLI was composed by Gaslini for 1972 film by GIORGIO FERRONI,
shot in 1972, Actually, this film is a re-make and
expansion of an episode from Bava’s immortal I TRE VOLTI DELLA PAURA (BLACK
SUNDAY). Yup, this is the SAME Gaslini
that collaborated with Goblin on “Profondo Rosso”. (Order from the DigitMovies catalogue)
UN
DELITTO POCO COMUNE
AKA: Phantom of
death
Off balance
An unusual
murder
Soundtrack to the 1988 cult horror film directed by Ruggero (Cannibal
Holocaust) Deodato, starring Michael York, the venerable Donald Pleasance and
the always-viewable Edwige Fenech is FINALLY AVAILABLE ON CD FOR THE VERY FIRST
TIME. (Order from the
DigitMovies catalogue)
PERCHE' QUELLE
STRANE GOCCE DI SANGUE SUL CORPO DI JENNIFER?
AKA:
Why Those Strange Drops of Blood on Jennifer's Body?
The Case of the Bloody Iris
Erotic
Blue
Rendezvous
with Satan
FINALLY AVAILABLE!
The ever -popular Bruno Nicolai delivered another dynamite soundtrack to
this 70’s cult giallo/crime flick. PERCE’ QUELLE… starring Euro-Hottie Edwige Fenech has been
ranked as one of the more successful Gialli ever made, and Nicolia’s score has
been praised as one of the most effective genre scores ever composed by that
essential reference, “Blood & Black Lace”. (Order from the DigitMovies catalogue)
LE MONACHE DI SANT'ARCANGELO /
STORIA DI UNA MONACA DI CLAUSURA
AKA: The Nuns
Monastery of Archangel
Sisters of Satan
The Nun and the
Devil
We’ve all waited for some – and
now, we got ‘em: NUNSPLOITATION!
Here’s a pair of rare soundtracks from the
always-resourceful Piccioni. “LE MONACHE DI SANT’ARCANGELO” (1972) was cranked
out by Domenico Paolella (aka Paolo Dominicile) and details the adventures of a
hot young novice. The OST was originally
released on an incredibly limited edition LP and features a lot of liturgical-sounding
themes and alternates them with some nice, contemporary atmospherics.
Filling out the disc are some additional tracks NOT appearing on the
original LP release.
Also included is the complete soundtrack to the sort-of sequel to “LE
MONACHE…”, the utterly forgettable "STORIA DI UNA MONACA DI
CLAUSURA", This score forms an organic whole with the earlier film,
utilizing several themes for the earlier soundtrack as well as some fresh
material – we all now how important it is for Trash Cinema to have some organic
unity! (Order from the DigitMovies
catalogue)
IL TUO VIZIO E' UNA STANZA
CHIUSA E SOLO IO NE HO LA CHIAVE
AKA:
Excite me
Your
vice is a closed room and I have the key
Gently
before she dies
Eye
of the black cat
Soundtrack to the classic 1972 Giallo directed by
Sergio Martino. The story is a macabre amalgam of Giallo, Exploitation and
inspirations from Edgar Allen Poe and features the luscious Edwige Fenech cast
in a rare, predatory role.
Nicolai’s evocative, monothematic score makes the
most of a romantic theme for cello and strings, adding contract with more
dramatic orchestral outbursts.
A great score to an under-appreciated film = A HIGHLY
COLLECTABLE CD – BUY IT NOW!
(Order from the
DigitMovies catalogue)
Something for Fellini Fans from GDM!
FELLINI/PIOVANI
Following
the success of the Rota’Fellini Tribute, GDM focuses on another special
cinematic collaboration – Fellini and Nicola Piovani!
Piovani
was Fellini’s last musical partner, composing scores for the maestro’s final
films - “GINGER
E FRED”, “LA VOCE DELLA LUNA” and
“INTERVISTA”. Also included are 4
tracks NEVER BEFORE RELEASED!
An essential CD for Fellini fans and anyone
interested in Italian Cinematic music! (Order from the GDM catalogue)
The Tall Man and the Last Days of Disco!
(Yes, we have the Phantasm Soundtrack!)
Always a crowd
pleaser and still a cult classic, Phantasm was one of the first horror movies
to break the unspoken rule that victims were supposed to scream, fall down, and
cower until they were killed. Instead, orphaned brothers, Mike and Jody are
resourceful and smart, aggressively pursuing the evil inside the funeral home
with a shotgun and Colt pistol. This drive-in favorite was a big success at the
time of its release, and spawned three sequels. Little wonder; it includes an
inventive story, likable characters, a runaway pace, evil dwarves cloaked in
Army blankets and lethal, little silver balls. GOTTA LOVE THE SLVER BALLS! The
end result is one of the better horror films of the late 1970s.
The score by the
late Fred Myrow and Malcolm Seagrave is a miniature masterpiece – drawing
effectively upon their soundworld of John Carpenter’s Halloween and The
Exorcist, adding its own measure of atmosphere, creativity and original licks.
As a reminder of place and time, the track “Phantasmagoria/Silver Sphere Disco”
is ESSENTIAL LISTENING! (Order from the Odd’n’Ends catalogue)
Catching Up with a Few Cinevox Titles
BUIO OMEGA
This CD features
the first issue of the complete Goblin soundtrack of the cult movie BUIO OMEGA
by director Joe D'Amato. Probably one of the most vile splat films ever made,
Joe made frequent use of Goblin’s score in later creations. (Order from the
Cinevox catalogue)
La morte bussa due volte
This CD
represents the posthumous tribute to composer Piero Umiliani, who sadly passed
away few days later this CD was assembled under the composer’s own supervision.
This CD features the complete score with 12 tracks never before issued on the
original vinyl LP produced in 1969. Directly remastered in
digital from the original session tapes. (Order from the Cinevox
catalogue)
MORE
Japanese Soundtracks
ONMYOJI
II
Now that J-Horror has run it’s course, the next
big thing in Japanese fantastic cinema is… Samurai Sword and
Sorcery epics. Following the sequel to the 2001
blockbuster. O/2 continues the epic struggle between Good and Evil with
stunning special effects, sword-play and beautifully staged martial arts
sequences.
The orchestral/synth score is by turns melancholic and stately and will
appeal strongly to fans of classy Game soundtracks. The CD comes with an
incredibly cool Taoist fetish-doll. How groovy can you get? (Order from the Japanese Imports
catalogue)
CHAKUSHIN ARI (You’ve Got
a Call)
So what film was it that Takashi Miike was making last week? Oh yeah,
his tribute to the whole “Ringu” phenomenon – “Chakushin Ari” (You’ve Got a
Call). Actually, to date, this has been
Miike’s most commercially successful venture with Japanese audiences, and easy
to see why – the ubiquitous cell phone, a super-hot starlet and of course, the
vengeful undead are sure-fire recipes for success.
As for the music, regular Miike collaborator, Koji
Endo has provided a plenty creepy and effective electronic/cut-up score.
Definitely in the same league as KAIRO. A nice touch is that most of the tracks
are titled after telephone numbers. Cute.
INCLUDES MAIN
THEME SONG SUNG BY KOU SHIBASAKI – Uber-Babe at large!
(Order from the
Japanese Imports catalogue)
That’s
it for this month… keep checking back for new
additions!
