Silent Hill 3 (Game Soundtrack)

After a bit of a sophmore slump with Silent Hill 2, both Konami and house composer Akira Yamaoka return in full form and full, innovative force on the score for Silent Hill 3. Fans of the original, edgy, industrial-flavored score are in for a refreshing change of pace. Instead of the minimalistic scrapings and wispy piano melodies, Yamaoka provides a a fully fleshed-out concept score, with more than a hint of Portishead-styled Trup Hop. This is a BIG plus in establishing a consistent musical concept, rather than merely looped, game sequences.

Yamaoka's accomplished instrumentation and arrangement skills, coupled with singer Melissa Williamson's spirited vocal work, make this soundtrack a definite standout in the horror adventure genre.
