Well alright now… HERE’S an obscure find! Never seen this one and in fact, there are very few references in English for Francesco Barilli's 1978 Pensione Paura (AKA Hotel Fear). Got to hand it to DigitMovies for performing a public service.

The name Adolfo Waitzman will also come as a new name to more than a few, I suspect. The Argentinian-born Waitzman has composed a thriller score much in the Pino Donaggio mode (especially in Pino’s sweeter moods) but expands upon his model with some very special flavorings of his own – particularly in his well selected orchestral colors and the inclusion of a couple of TANGOS! (Tracks 5 and 13). This is definitely a soundtrack that grows on you, and with each hearing, it gets more and more impressive. For a “thriller” soundtrack, this score has some very longing and melancholy cues.

This is a score well worth the time (and MONEY) to get to know.
