AKA: Dario Argento's Trauma

Trauma, starring Christopher Rydell, Asia Argento, Piper Laurie, Frederic Forrest, Laura Johnson, Dominique Serrand, James Russo, Ira Belgrade and Brad Dourif was Argento's next movie after OPERA and unfortunately his least popular film up to that time (Phantom of the Opera and Sleepless were yet to be made...)

Trauma was Argento’s first attempt to capture an American audience – both by shooting in English and by shooting the film in Minneapolis, and unfortunately, the anticipation of an American Argento opus far exceeded the film’s capacity to deliver. As one reviewer wrote, “It's a no-win situation; the people Argento so desperately wants Trauma to appeal to wont even know it exists while his fans don't really need to see Deep Red again at half-speed.” Pity, since it’s an above-average thriller, with spectaular gore from the Wizard of Pittsburgh, Tom Savini!

The story concerns Aura Petrescu (Asia Argento – looking fine!), a young anorexic woman whose parents are beheaded by a stranger at the end of a séance held by her mystic Romanian mother (Piper Laurie)...

This time 'round, Argento chose Pino Donnagio to compose the score, we delivered a very effective, orchestral ambience for the proceedings.

This reissue contains the previously unreleased 10 minute 'Trauma Suite'.
